i know i'm probably throwing darts here, along with any "thought", but hoping to narrow this down or have an idea as to where to start or how to start, WITHOUT the AE....
Lately, at idle, after warmed up, i can CLEARLY hear something going on, atop the motor. Under the sounds of the normal dieselsound, you can hear, what i'm describing, as a "low" helicoptor cutting through the air sound, witheither injectors or valve area...power wise, still not twisting anymore then the 12# i've been seeing for last 3yrs. No smoke, unless after engine is warm and an extense period of idling..say after 15min-20min. It'll clear the second i get on it.
Trucks at 205K..(woohoo), no chip, just all stock minus the wvo system......thanks for any clues or idears..btw, not consistant with rpm, but then again, it'll get maskwith higher rpm from idle
Maybe weak valve springs?
I suspect that is where a whole lot of my under hood noise originates from.
Hence why new 910's are going in the Zombieheart rebuild.
She seems good enough to keep on truck'n, but i know, i'll have to show her some love, soon.
Got a set of bellows along with new cac boots on way from Clay. WIth all apart, robably then, willdo comp test. Got a set of GP's too, that need to go in. Will check torque on both inj and rollers when in there.
Would sprigs be a wise move even though this truck never seen a chip? Its had a 10k for about a weeks worth when i first got her and was mess'n with it.
found where the noise is originating from. With truck idling, the chopper sound is present. i just happened to depress the clutch, and what you know, the noise subsides. Release clutch, chopper sound again....clutch, flywheel loose, internals of trans...?
Gonna flush tranny anyhow and see what happens. You zf6 guys/gals out there, i've found/read the party drink mix for these but what you all running with..merc V..(which i have now), half-half...etc? Think, i wouldnt mind tryn a different flavor for tranny on this flush
alright, on a hunch, while turning truck off, i kept the clutch depressed. She turned off like butter. For the past , easy 3yrs, when turning her off, it was an abropt stoppage. So much so, it just wasnt right. Now that with clutch depressed, it turns off like i always thought it should...normally..haha.
So, what exactly is going on, with clutch depressed? Is the input shaft being "pulled' out to relieve the bindage from within tranny or is it stationary and the clutch fork is collapsing the pressure plate and allowing "something" to have room now for w"whatever"....cant seem to grasp the workings..haha
