wrong tranny fluid!!!!! Anything hurt???
Yesterday, I went by the local Quick Lube, and told them to change all the fluids to synthetic.... Came back an hour later, and the truck was ready to go...
Started reading some post this morning, and read something about not using Mercon V in the transmission... HMMM....went and check the receipt, and guess what, they put Mercon V in the tranny....
Called the local dealership to verify, checked manual, and dipstick, all said standard Mercon fluid...
Called Quick Lube, and they said their computer called for Mercon V, but they would call the dealership and verify. Called me back and told me to come in.
Went in, and they drained the system, and refilled with Mercon ATF.
I called the dealership again, and explained what happened, concerned that something might have been damaged. They said that the tranny should be fine.
My question is, should I be concerned? The truck seems to be running fine...
Thanks..
I sure like to see people who take care of their vehicles. Good Job in catching the mistake so soon.
We've had new fleet driver's put diesel in a gas vehicle, gas in a diesel vehicle, mercon in a 85W-90W tranny, 30W in a Mercon tranny, Lucas oil Stabilizer in a gas tank, and 30W in a radiator.
Caught right away, we really never had a problem with any of the vehicles.
Some things have to be flushed out better than others, some require more work to correct, like Lucas in a gas tank, or 30W in a radiator.
But, as I said, caught as quickly as you did, there shouldn't be a problem.
You might as a precautionary measure, and to make you feel a little more at ease, take it in again in a day or so, and have the tranny changed
one more time.
That should insure that the entire tranny has been flushed of any remaining junk fluid.
Depending on the oil condition of some vehicle I see, I will some times pour a sacrificial quart of oil through the engine, during an oil change, just to further flush out an oil pan. Sounds silly, but thats just me.
Oil is the life blood of your engine, stay religious in regards to timely changes.

Good Luck, and have a great weekend!!
Matt
