hi i have a 76 428 f250 highboy, currently retoring.. i have all body parts i need, but one problem is bed sides..i herd bed sides from LMC are thin and crap.. i was wondering if these http://www.ebay.com/itm/1977-1979-F-Series-Truck-Outer-Bedside-Skin-Left-Side-GMK3145606775L-Goodmark-St-/371088873472?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1979%7CMake%3AFord&hash=item56669ed800&vxp=mtr bedsides are good? better than lmc? anyone get these bedsides before? thankyou much guys
350 bucks just for one side? No way. Find yourself a donor truck with an okay bed. If you need both sides your going to spend $700 as it is so why not spend a $1,000 and get a whole donor truck and have more spare parts than just the bed? Call around to local junk yards and see if they have any dentsides with alright beds on them, if they do it'll be well under $700 and in my opinion I'd much rather change out the whole bed than have to cut out part of it and weld in a new panel and have to go through all that.
ya i have a donor for the cab, but i i cant any beds.. i dont care about the work, besides the work of cutting and welding, i just wana know if these are good quality sides
Well under $700? Geez, be thankful you don't live in Australia: I haven't seen a decent bed for under $2000 - and our exchange rate is not much lower than the US$.
I should start bringing in container loads of US dents at that price!
Goodmark co. is a GM licensed restoration parts supplier. I'm surprised that they make anything Ford related. For what it's worth a friend of mine bought a Goodmark decklid for his 1970 Camaro. When he test fitted the panel he had to literally bend it to fit. Then he had about an 1/8th of body filler to level the panel. To me a licensed product such as Goodmark and Dennis Carpenter should fit much better then that.
I have not experienced any of the Ford aftermarket bedsides but as an established body shop I have replaced hundreds of aftermarket body panels and parts over the long years. Generally speaking, they are all usable and with a bit of occasional tweaking etc. are fine. So.. my quickie thoughts are; even a slightly thinner than OEM is probably better than the hassle of removing a oem box-side.It also has to be better than the rusty/damaged one you are needing to replace. good luck.
I put aftermarket bedsides on my truck. They aren't bad. I have a feeling that they are all made by the same place and same quality. I have used goodmark stuff on GMS and it was always a nice fit. I dont know if these sides are made by them or just the same ones you can get from any panel place. Are you paying for a better product or just the "Goodmark" name on the same thing from LMC? I would do some investigating before you buy.
A tip to any and all out there. Go to a body shop and see if they can get you the panels. Instead of buying online, a lot of body shops use local distributors that have the same product in stock. I got my bedsides through a friends body shop. They were they same as LMC and all the other places. They were cheaper, they delivered them to the body shop within 3 days. No shipping, no delivery fee and no hassle.
And as always the prep and time putting the bedsides on makes all the difference in an ok job and a great job. But be prepared to do some block sanding if you want them straight.
