Yeah...finally, a day off!
I work 11 1/2 hr days M-F, but I worked as an EMT for the Gay Pride event in Reno yesterday to make a few extra bucks. It's been a long week. At least I have today off for church & school shopping for the kids. Lol Now to find a Doctor that works on Saturdays so I dont have to take a day off of work.(yah right) I need to get my Thyroid meds refilled before my organs are effected & start shutting down. I learned the hard way years ago that I cant control it with food & exercise like you can with diabetes. My Potasium levels were deadly low & had to have IV Potasium pumped into me. I spent 2 days in the hospital for that one. It's amazing how your Thyroid can control so much of your body functions!
Donna, I hope those 11.5 hour days don't last too long, wouldn't take too many of those to get burned out. Pay is going to be good though, but at what cost?
Jim is right. 11.5 hr days wear you down, I don't care who you are. It is a formula for accidents and bad for your health. Don't get me wrong, I am happy for you that you have gotten hired at a great job. They won't hire me because of my age. I presume that this schedule is to test your dedication to the job.
Good morning Nevada, happy Tuesday! Jim is right, easy to get burned out working that much. I usually have to work that when we shut down to refuel, usually 30-45 days, at least 6 days a week. Wears you out after a while!

I hope you had a great day. I got a call from my Supervisor that I didnt need to work today due to the loader being broken. Woohoo! Wait...I need the money though, so I asked him if I could come in & wash/detail my truck. He told me to come in around 9:30...so I did. Needless to say, I won't be offering to do that again!!! Not only did I pressure wash mine, but I had to do another truck too. I came home caked with muddy gypsum clay from head to toe-literally! My coworkers said it looked like I went mudding with the windows down. Lol
On a positive note, I get weekends off to recoup & catch up on sleep. Not that I get to sleep in very long. My body has gotten used to getting up at 4am, so im thrilled to sleep in until 5:30. I do go to bed around 7:30-8:00, so I do get good sleep atleast.
Speaking of sleep...its that time.
Goodnight everyone.

Fatigue...often times a big factor in work related incidents. Keep it in check! Keep a safe work enviroment...lives depend on it! Stay safe!

Donna, you used to post pictures for us after days like that. What happened this time? .
I'm a worker too. 8 hours days just aren't enough.
From spending a fair portion of my mechanical career in the Mining & Drilling business in Nevada. 11.5 hours a day are normal. 15-16 hours a day was more normal for me with driving all over the State. Mining is always behind because of just like Donna said a broke loader. Well that time has to be made up. 8 hours a day are only a dream in that business. Mining is a young persons career. I know my share of older guys that died younger than they should of because of bad health in these businesses.
good morning everyone from Nevada. I guess I am the newest member. Already completed the roll call. Name is Jared, 26 and living in Elko. Have a '77 f100 as my name suggests. Glad to be a part of this chapter. Been working on this truck my whole life. got big plans for it now. Wanting to do an engine swap and maybe the crown vic suspension swap front and rear. thinking of just getting a donor crown vic and using the engine and transmission out of it. anyone know of any pick and pull's around Elko? I'm pretty new to northern Nevada so haven't really found anything yet.
