OK-The oil filter housing takes extended cranking time[20 plus seconds] to start filling.[About then the gauge goes up to Low]Read posts about cracked pickup tube, overfilled a couple of quarts,no difference.Pulled pressure relief valve,it wasn't stuck. There are several small scratches that I can just feel with my fingernail.
Here's my question. Is this purely a low pressure oil pump problem? Some say it has to be-some say it can be a HIPOP pressure leak/problem.I'd really like to know before I tear into the front cover.
It's a 2004 F350 w/ 197,000 miles.
Did the ARP headbolts/upgraded head gaskets/egr delete/new turbo/FICM at around 160,000 miles.
Started intermittent no start several weeks ago until it now won't fire at all.
IPR builds to 250,which is half of what it needs to start,I realize.
My question was that if there is inadequate oil pressure from the lpop[which there clearly is]will this affect the hipop output? If there are hpop low pressure issues can this be causing the lpop problems?
As far as the gauge question goes,I'm talking about the dash gauge. With fully charged batteries,I have to crank the motor for probably 20-30 seconds before the filter housing begins to fill.About that time the dash gauge will start registering some pressure.
The dash gauge is simply a switch. 7 psi and above it grounds out of the wire, below 7 is it an open circuit. 20-30 seconds is way too long. This is a LPOP problem. The HPO system is fed after the oil filter, so even if there is a major leak you should have good flow at the filter housing.
Thanks for the replies guys.
Damn 78FordMan-you got that 'ol Fe puttin' out some ponies.425 hp from a 390 ain't bad.Years ago I had a swbox 69 F100 w/ a 428[Merc,not CJ].It had 4:11's w/ detroit locker. My mistake was puttin' in a close ratio car Toploader 4 speed.First gear was way too high-wide ratio woulda been better.Never got beat by another pickup in the quarter though although some of those 454 Chevys gave me a pretty good run.
