Let me say that you would be lucky to do 10mph in 1st gear with a ZF 5 speed. I have 4.10's, but still, I don't use 1st, but have tested it and 5 was limits. I barely moved the speedo.
I have a ZF 5 speed 4x4 and 4.10 back end and I think I get 10mph in first.
What is really neat is hauling a boat out of the water in low 1st. Top speed is only 3mph, which means all I have to do is let the clutch out (vac cap pulled at the ramp parking lot to produce 1000+ idle rpm) and the boat moves nice and slow up the ramp, as in under control, without having to touch the gas pedal.
Regards, Robert.
Just tried top speed in 1st, it says 8mph, but the speedo might not be too accurate that low on the guage.

Hello again everyone. I had to get the police involved in this. I was sure I was going to jail. This guy really ticked me off! It's not over yet! I'll be seeing him in small claims. I've got a friend who's going to pull my trans and replace it with a re-built. All I can say is that I'm sorry for any information that I passed along, leading to beleive it was true. I don't know how this guy was sleeping at night! Thanks again guy's....
There sure is quite a bit of info on this page. Sorry about your luck to scooter, that sucks. Anyway, I think that I know what he is talking about, but let me start by saying that I know close to nothing when it comes to the drivetrain of a vehicle, just stick with the autobody stuff. With that said, I think what he is trying to say is, I have got the same truck and when I am on the highway cruising at about 70-80 it sounds like it is really working the truck hard. I dont have a tach installed so I dont know what kind of RPMs its turning but by ear it sounds rough on the truck. I think that he is looking for something with a little more in the top-end. Not sure though let us know.
Hey guys!! Has anyone else noticed that bottomofa5th hasn't responded to any of our suggestions or ideas? Oh well, at least it got us talking... I'm in a much better mood today. Again I apologize to all for any inconvinience and mis-information I had recieved and passed along to yuo guys. I'll definately get a second opinion, before taking someone at their word.
