Brake seals , Do you mean rebuilding calipers or rear brake cylinders ? If so , Its more hassle than its worth Vs the cost of replacing the whole caliper or rear brake cylinder .
Yeah, if you are talking about the "O" ring seal around the piston and the rubber dirt boot on the outside of the piston, I would say just get a set of rebuilts from a reputable shop. I did the "do it yourself" route with my 94 F250 4x4 and getting the pistons to seta and getting them squeezed into the boot without pulling the boot out of it's groove was a beach. The rebuild kit at NAPA was not a lot less expensive than just buying the rebuilt set with exchange. Next time it would be well worth the $10 or so bucks I saved by messing with the calipers myself.
Only thing I worry about with rebuilts, is quality. I have found that no name brand rebuilds(alternators, pumps, carbs etc) are a crap shoot. So go with a name brand and get a good warranty. I once replcaed an alternator 5 times in a month because the rebuilt a) Didn't work(out of the box) twice; B) Broke the pulley, once; C) Blew up after a week once. It was a PITA and since I bought it out of town I had to track down the shop and drag my butt in every stinking time. This is one reason I try to do my own rebuilds, that way I can always beach at the maker. But the calipers are a pain, at least on my truck. Other cars have not been so hard.
