OK so I have searched this problem and seen where some have vapor locked or whatever. Tried banging on the tank squeezing the hose etc. Last time warning came on I pulled in and tried to fill it up and it only took between 2 and 2.5 gallons. However the warning went away. This time same thing I know it has not been long enough for another fill maybe 2k miles. So I pulled in again and got just under two gallons in it. Warning did not go out came home got on here and learned about above mentioned problem and solutions so went to Wal Mart and got a bottle. Tried to force feed it while tapping on tank and squezzing hose but probably not even a half gallon and still have the warning. I drive alot so the 455 miles I have left wont last me long. I picked it up 10/23 with30 miles on it and I am right at 30k now. So am I stuck going to the stealership?
thank you everyone
Mine sometimes takes two or three restarts before the warning goes out. Last time it did this it took over 100 miles and three restarts to go out.
It's stupid little crap like this that really ticks me off about my truck.
ME TOO. good still outweighs bad though.
I have restarted it several times.
My issue is not only is it not going out but when it comes on I can only fit 2.5 gallons max in the tank. This has happened the last to times now.

Probably a bad level sensor then.
The level sensor is part of the DEF temp sensor/heater assembly.
Been a lot of these go bad on these trucks, replaced mine not too long ago.

great. Hopefully they have one on hand. I use it as my money maker everyday and with 455 to empty I will be lucky to get three days out of it.
thanks to all
My truck is also my "money maker" but I usually do about 675 miles a DAY when I'm working.
The real kicker on it was when the EGT sensor went belly up and left me on the side of the road with a 37' 5th wheel hooked to it. Big tow bill and shop bill to diagnose and replace a $54 part.
All these useless things like DEF and exhaust temp sensor that malfunction and leave you stranded. You know how they said the 20th century is the American Century. Guess what, the 20th century is over and so is America. Cant build a pipeline and they say with all the regulations they couldn't build the Golden Gate Bridge today.
you might try to get the ford fill spout. It will work with the blue def jugs as well.
It is made to seal properly and also to vent so the **** water will go into the tank.
When full the container level that you are holding will not move so you know that it is full.
every def 2.5 gl jug ive ever bought had a vent in it? Some dont?
What I also do is do it in my garage when its quiet to listen to the fluid getting closer up the fill neck.Just added some today but I couldnt fit the last 2 pints in!Full
I refill when it hits have way and that just about 2.5 gallons and I have not seen a count down ever. You are filling it all the way. So one or more sensor are bad. I think they are the same crappy sensor I have in my trailer.
I was just about to post the same thing!! Added a jug about 2 weeks ago after getting message. I only put about 2k miles on it then I get the message again wjhile towing my 5th wheel. Thinking that maybe it just sucked it down, I went to Walmart and got two new boxes and after the first one went in, it was full.....looks like I'll be headed into the dealer!! Only 21k on the clock, they'll be fixing it!!

The ford spout has the best seal. I rinse it and reuse.
Well went by the dealer this morning and made arrangements to drop off in the morning. Warning was still on, but after I stopped and filed the diesel tank. The warning went out. Guess we wil see what happens.

Hey everyone,
Be sure to let us know how things go at your dealerships. Once you've had your truck inspected, I'll be able to check out ways to help, if needed.
