I did my shoes last week, they aren't fun. With a wheel cylinder, both pistons move outwards equally when pressing the brake pedal. If only one side works, then chances are a seal blew out on the one side, and needs a new wheel cylinder. They are about $10 a piece, I'd replace both of them. Take pics of your brake spring setup before removing for easy install
It sure can. Since I've replaced my wheel cylinder and then re-adjusted the self-adjusters to the correct position, I have a nice firm brake pedal again, and was able to bleed all the air out that was getting sucked back in.
