i have a 69 f-250 flat bed the original engine died and the guy who gave it to me put the 300 out of a 91 in it with the 4spd out of a72 in it. he was nice enough to put the intake and exhaust off of the 69 on the engine but couldn't get it working right,so he gave it to me. i got it running, but the radiator doesn't work right , there is two out lets on the bottom and one is capped off and it overheats after a few minutes, and no fan shroud, so i was thinking of an electric fan and check the head gasket. the only other problem i have is no spot for a fuel pump on the engine, so i have to get an electric but not sure what size or gpm. it is also rusted out in the floor boards and inner fenders. they want 300 bucks in the catalog and 25 bucks at the j.y., they usually rust out where the hinge bolts on and those bolts don't come loose easily. it is a project but it was free, just haul home.

Before you go yanking the head I'd check the thermostat and fan blade. Check to make sure the t-stat is mounted with it's spring in the engine. And check to make sure the fan is pulling air through the radiator. Not pushing air. Lawd knows what fan the PO used.
thanks i will try that, already checked the water pump, and there is no fan shroud so they put a spacer in there and brought it to within an inch or two.
