I am sure that if you are reading this you probably have a Ranger.. and it probably has broken down
Anyway, does any one know about getting a new arm rest/console for a 60/40 split bench. The cheap plastic that Ford uses on the cover is not up to the task of having an arm on it for many miles - Cracked - Rubber Bands Holding it together.
The dealer has quoted 175 for a new one. Any thoughts on how to get an aftermarket one.
just take it off and buy one from walmart or autozone. You can take it off by popping off the round tab in the inside of the console. It is in the rear and on the driver's side. It is flush but has a place to put something to pop it off. Just take it off and take out the screws and the console is off. Then just put something to replace it or whatever. i know this isn't really a answer for your problem but it is a possible solution
The console is not a single unit if it's anything like my '94.
I had the closing latch snap off and got the same song & dance from the parts guy.
After close inspection, I found out that you could remove the "manual slot" by removing a screw or 2. This alllows access to the screws that attached the lid to the hinge...
I have a 94, with 60/40 seats...soon after I bought it a drunk Mexican broke in and stole the change that was in the little slots (in the armrest), instead of pushing the button he just ripped the lid up and broke the latch...all for $3....at the time Ford quoted me $285 for the whole arm rest...it took me 4 1/2 years...but I finally found one in a salvage yard that actually had a latch that wasn't broken....I have found that Junk Yards are a very good place to get inexpensive replacement parts...I very suprised at the quality too...Im sure this is not typical of all salvage yards...but still doesn't hurt to look into it!
