Recently took delivery of a 2014 F150 XLT. My only complaint, (OK, it's actually my wife's complaint) is that the 5 inch Chrome Step Bars are mounted too clse to the truck and provide very little stepping surface when exiting the truck. It is not an issue on entry as her foot is facing the other way and her toes will go between the step and the truck. Does anyone make replacement brackets that move those Chrome Step Bars out 3/4 to 1 inch?
When I ordered my current F-150 I ruled out the step bar option as well as any option package containing them because they just aren't' very functional…too high and too close to the rocker panel. I speculate that the legal department probably had more input on the final design than any designer, ergonomic specialist, focus group recommendation, or customer evaluation survey. I splurged on Amp Research power Steps and have never regretted it. They were around double Ford's list price for the step bars but far more useful. Put them on in the garage at home in a couple of hours and well worth the money. If I buy another F-150 (unless it's a Platinum), I'll get them again.
