Black is beautiful but it is a beach to keep clean.
Wash and wax regularly(wax several times a year and wash weekly?). Use a clay bar once or twice a year to get the real crud off. DON'T wax too often. I once waxed the paint off a beautiful car by waxing it every weekend for 4 years. Still beautiful but you could see primer.
I have been reading that the new spray waxes are pretty good and easy to use. You might also use a liquid detail spray if you are really fanatical.
Use a California duster(looks like a red rag mop in a short handle) to get rid of dust that gathers on the paint every day. This helps to keep dust from turning into mud when you get dew over nite.
Get a car cover and or garage it.
I have owned 2 black cars and 3 or 4 really dark cars, and they were all a pain to keep looking their best, but when they were looking good they were beautiful.
Ranger, I too have a black truck (03 S'Crew) and have now finished my third coat of wax on it in about 2 months. This was my last one for a while, but I wasn't completely happy with the Maguires Gold Class. I went back to an old product I used on my collector 280ZX, Zymol. No this is not Zano others have talked about.
The Zymol put a deep rich gloss that I just couldn't believe ! Yes, you will find many here who use more expensive mail order stuff. Myself, I just wanted the ease pf buying a good product at my local parts store. Zymol, contains all natural ingredients and it's the best wax I've ever used.
I tried the Eagle Wet Look Wash & Spray (?) stuff you spray on after washing while it's still wet. I never have been able to get all the haze off it very well. Black really shows more imperfections than any other paint. Let me know if find one that works better.
thanks that really helps im really clueless in this department...and one more question...i also have a black tanue cover and i was wondering if there was any ideas on keeping that clean and dark looking or would i just be better off getting it re painted and if so
how much does that usually cost/???
If the tonneau cover is fabric or soft plastic, you can probably use a treatment like Armorall. Or I bet someone sells a tonneau cover treatment. Either way, you want to protect the fabric or plastic from sun and these treatments work pretty well.
If the cover is regular car paint, just wash and wax like the rest of the truck.
