I haven't messed with wheel/tire choices on 2wd's. I'm a fan of 17" and 18" rims on a lot of cars/trucks usually gives a great appearance as long as the rims look good. I like the smaller smoothie wheels and dog dish hub caps also just depends what way your going with the truck decided what rims look best. There's a tool on summit that allows you to play with offsets, rim widths and diameters so you can make sure everything will fit and not have to wait until your rims are shipped to you then find out they won't work. Someone with a 2wd will be able to tell you off hand what can work as I'm sure there's multiple members on here that played with wheel/tire choices on there truck.
Isn't a 15" wheel about as hot rod as it gets? The bigger stuff is just modern, pretty standard stuff.
I have 8" wide wheels on the rear with 3.5" backspace and I'm sure 4" would work. 4.5" will be pushing it, but with the narrower tires, you may get away with it - the rim might fit fine but the bulge of the tire could be a problem. The skinny tires also aren't very hot rod looking.
