i've got a 92 eddie bauer that i just picked up. it has no power when accelerating, stumbles and sounds like its missing at least 3 cylinders. its not showing a cel. what besides fuel filter, fuel pressure, injectors and air pressure in left front tire should i look at to solve this problem?
it idles fine and seems to run ok when it gets up to speed.
Spark plugs and spark plug wires. If the three cylinders are on the same "side" of the coil, the coil could have a problem. I suppose it could also be bad compression. That's what I found a month ago on my '92. It had a miss at idle.
Here's what I did to find my misfire. Service manuals suggested this procedure to find a misfiring cylinder. With the engine idling, pull a spark plug wire. If the engine stumbles (worse) that cylinder is good. If pulling that wire has no effect on the idle, that cylinder is dead. Replace the plug wire and repeat on the other cylinders. From this, I found that #'s 2 and 6 were dead. Checked for spark at these two cylinders and each was getting spark. Checked for gas by pulling the spark plugs and seeing if the electrode was "wet" with gasoline, and they were. Finally performed a compression check and found that #'s 2 and 6 had 1/3 to 1/4 the compression of the other cylinders.
Good luck.
