I use Amsoil 5w40. I buy the DEO Premium Diesel 5w40 because I own a semi, but it also meets the SN rating for gas engines. It is in a Cat C-15, a 3.4L V6 Impala and our 6.8L V10 Excursion.
Love this. I do the same thing. Run it in the semis propane lifts small gas engines and my truck for work with great results. Oil samples confirm this
It's so nice not having separate oil for everything! I'm trying to use up the odds and ends in the 3wheeler, push mower, and old dodge pickup. Oil samples on semi are good, I don't sample the personal vehicles. The riding mower got the 5w40 also.
I don't run this "snake oil" you guys argue about. Let me break it down to the facts:
1. Oil adds weight to the vehicle. That means less MPG.
2. It decreases the friction on the interior motor parts inside motor (technical term) resulting in less heat. Less heat means the fuel won't burn fully. That means less MPG.
3. These "magic filters" cause the debris and any sludge to collect in one place... THE FILTER! This is very dangerous for the filter and you will end up replacing it every oil change.
4. Oil is bad for the environment, you're melting the polar caps you monsters. That means less MPG.
5. The Model-T didn't require oil (this was one of Henry Fords dreams that all vehicles be "oil-less"), ran a dual turbo set-up with over 400 HP and had a 100k mile warranty springy bumper thing to springy bumper thing.
I'm the easiest person to give it to 6 quarts of ford oil/filter & 1/2 hr later done Anybody know if the s at the end of the ford filter means short or standard?
