I have two engines a 292y and a 352fe. The 292 smokes real bad, and the 352 is seized. Which is my better option, considering cost of a reabuild, preformance etc. (preformance is real important) or should i go for a 351w that i also have, it needs a valve job.
Any of the true gurus here can tune you in to whats cheaper to rebuild, but all of us would ask if $$$$ are the biggest concern, you need to remember costs to convert lots of items if a non stock motor is swapped in.
Motor mounts, radiators, pipes, wires, linkages, oil pans, Firewalls are among the 6jillion headaches to deal with on a swap.
Assuming the 292 is in her now, that would be my vote unless its a complete basket case. Main brgs pistons rings valves and all may look priced 40-60% higher than FE or Windsor stuff, but I really doubt it means much in the overall time and $$$ picture of the other choices.
If the 292 is in a pre '65 truck, you're better of
staying with it, as certian things need to be
removed to fit the 352... like the bell housing
mount cross member, this is a very bad idea...
as it supplies the front leafsprings with
anti-frame-twist strength...
What would be required to replace a 292 in a 64 F100, std 3 spd w/overdrive with a 352 that is already rebuilt? Would the benefit(s) be worth the trouble?
There's a specific bellhousing for FE (352) engines in that year truck. And, I think, there's also a specific front (timing) cover. The bellhousing and front cover provide the same mount points as the 292.
IIRC, the 352 was an option for that year truck, so it makes sense that there would be parts to mount the engine.
hi rebuild your 292 which you can bore out heap,s change your exhaust manifold,s get a 4 barrel manifold and hang on let those long leg in the 292 run free my fly,s
