Hey ive been having some trouble starting for the past month or so in my 1996 f150 5.0l. When i turn key i can hear the fuel pump kick it. I just did a full tune up on it yesterday(plugs, wires, cap, rotor) thinking this would solve the problem because i havent replaced any of that in the 2 and half years i owned the truck but today when i started it it had trouble just like before. When i turn key over to start itll make a weird chugging noise and then just stall and nothing will happen so im not sure what the problem is. I replaced fuel filter aboit 4 months ago and the starter is also pretty new but i can hear the starter engaging so ik its not that. If anyone has any tips or ideas please let me know
Try cycling the ignition key back and forth several time from on to off, allowing the fuel pump to prime several times. The try to start it. Sounds like weak fuel pump may be the culprit, but checking fuel psi would be 1st on the list, along with check for stored codes. There could be another underlying problem besides fuel pump if fuel psi checks ok.
