I have a 1985 f150 with the straight six in it. I want more horsepower and better gas mileage as well and I was wandering if y'all thought it would be a good idea to put a g force chip in it. Or what else I should do. Thanks
Nope. If it has EFI, and I don't think it does, there's no way to put a chip in it. Further, to get more power and horsepower is tough. The only way to do that is if you have something wrong in your current setup. Like maybe someone removed some of the smog equipment without doing it properly or completely. Or if the system isn't working properly at present.
So, tell us more about what you have. Carb'd? Is it completely stock, meaning that all the original equipment is there and working?
1984-1986 would have originally come with the feedback system.
Welcome to the forum, Loganwesley33! Tell us more about your truck [i.e. transmission, options, rear end ratio, tire size, overall condition] and how you drive.
When I first bought my '86 F-150/300 six it was all stock and running well. After driving it for almost two years I had a friend (retired mechanic) install EFI exhaust manifolds, an Offy DP intake, a Holley 390 cfm carb, and a Davis HEI ignition. The increase in power was amazing! As for gas mileage, that's something I never keep track of because the truck is not my daily driver.
