Hello-
2003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 5.4L. My issue is this....When I tow my travel trailer (4200 lbs.) or my utility trailer(loaded) I get a clunking/grinding from my truck. I am not surely exactly were the noise is coming from. It seems to only happen when going up a hill and around 60 MP. It happens in overdrive or even when the overdrive is off. When I hear the noise, I ease off the gas and the noise goes away. I have replaced many things in the front end of the vechicle in the last year but I still have the noise. Thank you for any help on this matter and if more information is needed, please let me know.
To alloro's point, the wheel bearing seals are known to leak after many miles and use gear oil. I'd get under the rear end and look for seal leakage and I'd check the diff fluid level. I would also check the U joints to see if they're bad.
Either of those would be more pronounced when pulling a load.
