Hi to all! I am Joe a new forum member and am currently in the middle of replacing all the tie-rods and steering gear when I ran into some trouble. I was able to fight the rust on the power steering return line and successfully removed it from the steering gear, but wasn't so lucky with the pressure hose. The line was rusted solid to the flare nut and now need to replace it. My pressure line doesn't have the switch port.
My question is: can I use the pressure hose assembly with the switch port or is it required that I buy the pressure hose without it? The reason for my question is based on money. The powering steering pressure hose with switch port is $28 vs. $100 for the one without it. I could really use answers ASAP, because I am stuck at my dad's who lives an hour away from my house and the auto parts store closes soon.
Yea you can use the hose with the port provided every thing else is equal, same fittings at each end bent to fit correct, you'll just need to plug the sensor port with a suggestible plug is all.
Question it though as no reason pressure line would be 100 bucks with or without pressure switch port.
Info about your truck, year/model/engine/trans etc might shed more light on the subject.
Small engine uses pressure switch in line, trucks with larger engines do not 5.0 and down 5.8L up for example.
Thanks for the quick reply. Its an early production 1995 F150 XLT Supercab 4x4 with the 5.8L engine. O'Reilly Auto Parts is my only option in Des Moines, IA for the hose without the switch port and they want $86.99 to be exact. Bronco graveyard sells it for $25, but I can't wait that long.
Yea buy the cheaper one with the port but ask to see both of them, verify both ends are the same fittings. Looks like it in the images but only lists fitting sizes for the line with the port, other one they don't bother to mention it.
Should be the same but naturally due to distance you have to travel (good idea regardless) take your old one to match it up. Don't forget to grab a plug to use in the switch port.
That is just what I ended up buying. I couldnt see it in person. The Part was 60 miles away in Des Moines. The parts lady over the phone said it came with an o-ring cap. My wife and sister brought it up to me last night so I could finish the job. Steering is finally nice and tight. It drives straight down the road but the steering wheel isn't straight with the wheels. I'll get her aligned come Monday. Thanks again.
