Im fairly sure the calipers are either oe or a early 90s replacements. I replaced the pads late summer of 2012. Maybe 8-10k miles on them.
Now to what im experiencing. I dont have alot of pedal. The brakes work but im in the mood to tinker. Fluid in the mc is kind of dark but is somewhat transparent if that makes sense. Was going to bleed them but while my daughter was pumping i kept hearing a pffft in rythim with the pedal compressions. There is no seepage on the lines or fittings or around the mc. The mc is old as well . May be oe. Anyway i pulled the vac line from the booster and eliminated that as where the pfft can come from. When i pull the mc cap the small front resevoir squirts fluid up like a fountain when the pedal is compressed. Is that normal? Im wondering if the piston seal went bad on my mc?
Been quite awhile since ive had anything wrong with a mc and have forgotten a good bit of the info.
The geyser of fluid is correct and normal. That's the piston covering the little hole down in the bottom of the master. When you are not pushing the pedal, both the front and rear brake systems are open to the reservoirs through the little hole in the bottom of each reservoir. It's called a "compensation port" and when the fluid gets warm in the system, it lets it expand back into the reservoir instead of applying the brakes.
The first thing I would do is pull the E-brake on(if it works). Then try the pedal. If the pedal is higher, your rear brakes are out of adjustment.
Ill check that this afternoon . Just got in from cat fishing. Is that little pfft sound normal with these? Like i said been a good while since i did mc work.
