1999 7.3 dash fan/vent control problem

My dash controller to change the direction of the airflow doesn't seem to be working properly. Tried to direct AC air to dash vents and it is stuck on sending all the airflow through the defrost and floor vents. Tried with and without AC on and no change so it is something that has to do with the mechanism that changes directions. Fan speed seems to work ok just where the flow is directed is the issue. Not sure where to start so suggestions would be appreciated.

You have a vacuum leak or lack thereof. Check you're vacuum motor, Vacuum Canister, and Vacuum lines - Passenger side under hood.

Got it

Tom, thanks for the directions. I found it and there weren't any obvious leaks so I unplugged and found no power to pump. Found fuse (which was fun since owners manual doesn't specify). Seems that power circuit is tied into the 5th wheel plug somehow and the dealer just replaced it this week. Saved me a bunch of money with your advise. Appreciate it.

That's kind of a common thread around here.

FTE must be causing the Ford service managers to pull their hair out!

If manufacturers in general would fix just some of the problems they actually know about before the vehicles leave the assembly line and if the "technicians" at the dealerships actually knew as much as many of the members of this site, more of us might be willing to trust the service departments with our vehicles.
