TransferFlow Replacement

My stock OEM fuel tank has a crack in it. I've got to replace it. I was thinking of getting a TransferFlow replacement tank. It would nearly double my capacity, but it's nearly $1,000. My wife wants me just to go stock to save the money, but I'm thinking the extra capacity would be nice. One thing that did concern me, however, is how much my fuel efficiency might diminish because of the extra weight of the tank (150 lbs) plus fuel.

Any opinions, thoughts, etc?

Since it is a gas truck, not many options.

How much does your wife weigh? What's the MPG difference when she's with you and when you're alone? Not going to make any difference.

Well hopefully not 250lbs. Lol. I'm 6'4" and don't weigh that.

Update: ford says no idea when they'll get a new fuel tank in stock. May not even be made.

Sounds like a good enough reason to upgrade to me.

If you really want a new OEM tank you could always buy a new truck.

Stock tanks are not hard to find if you try looking. Usually $150-300. I can't justify the $1000 for a larger tank. If you NEED the capacity get an in bed tank. 1/2 the cost for twice the additional capacity.

Have you seen the cost of new trucks? My 2003 has 58k. I figure I can get at least 5 more years.

I have a short bed and soon an undercover flex cover. Where can I get a stock tank? I've been looking.

Usually Craigslist will turn them up. I suppose if yours is broken uou can't exactly wait though. I've seen them on eBay as well.

I got the TransferFlow replacement tank installed. So far so good. It's an expensive upgrade, but it significantly increases the range.
