Im looking at a 1965 F100 short bed, 2wd, 352 3 speed, Custom Cab. White grill and bumpers. Owner claims but can not verify 72,000 miles.
Looks to have original paint, solid body, no rust except for the surface rust on the underbody. Original wheels with original painted hub caps. Interior in nice condition.
Seems like a fairly original and unmolested 65 no problems? Runs drives nothing needed to get in and go? Usual wear and tear? hard to say without pics as just a description can leave thousands difference in what everyone's opinion of what it's worth. I'll say around the 4-7k for a pretty straight clean driver truck.
My 66 short bed, 240, 3 speed, has 65K original miles (with plenty of documentation to prove it), original paint, brand new tires, etc, etc. Everything's in perfect order....hop in and drive it across the nation. (well...right now you'd be sweating a lot without AC)
I think on a crazy good day with a buyer with money to burn, I could maybe, just maybe get half of what that guy's asking.
Around here there just isn't any demand for these trucks. There is currently a complete running '64 LWB F100 for sale for $700 locally. Been for sale a while....
Just depends on supply and demand I guess.
My wife and I drove 100 miles to a salvage yard because the guy told me he had 4 or 5 rust free core supports for 65/66 F100s for $75 each. I went to the bank and withdrew $450 because I was going to buy all of them.
Well he only had 1 F100 and it had cab steps and nothing forward of the firewall.
That 200 mile round trip at 60-65mph on a 90 degree day with 100% humidity and no AC was a big buzz kill. We usually only drive the truck once or twice a year like that so its not a big enough issue to do anything about it, but for most of the people today it is an issue.
These are just low option 50 year old trucks with a very small following and an even smaller market.
Im still looking at the blue and white 65 in Tampa. It disappeared off CL and I thought it was sold. Its back on CL an the seller lowered the price from $11,500 to $10,000.
I cant make my truck like his for 10k. The misses says to just go and get it.

Now compare NADA, which is always out of touch with reality, with Collector Car current values. High retail is #1 which is a recent professional restoration, average retail is condition #3, and low retail is between condition #4-5. NADA is almost double which is why only sellers look at NADA. I suspect they are the same as Hagerty in that they only survey what the asking price and never the selling price as the site I linked.
well i cant tell u the last time ive seen a 61-66 around here. I mean f100s there maybe five but they all restored. There isnt a 250 around here for 100 in each direction
