Just purchased a DC Power 270XP and their wire upgrade kit. I was a little confused on how the wiring goes.
The 6.0 Wire Kit came with the Following:
One 4'11" Red Cable
One 4'11" Black Cable
One (about) 16" Red Cable
One Fuse Holder
I for the life of me cannot figure out how to connect it all together. I was told it connect to the passenger side battery. I would think (and I could be way off) that the 4' 11" red would be from the passenger side battery to the driver side battery but then I would be one cable short to connect to the fuse holder and the battery from the alternator. 4'11" seems long to go from the alternator to the fuse holder as I would have all kinds of slack left over. If anyone has installed this kit if you have pictures I would appreciate you posting them.
The fuse between the two batteries may not be necessary. You also need to run matching ground cables from each battery to a clean spot on the frame and don't be afraid to shorten the cables for a better fit.
That is kind of how I thought it should go but with the kit they sent me I don't have the cable for it. I will give them a call and see what they have to say about it.
That's not my truck, it's just a similar setup. I have a cable going from the alternator charging post to a 300A fuse then to the + on the passenger side then over to the + on the driver side. For the grounds, all I have is a cable going from the - post on each battery down to a bare metal spot on the frame. It won't affect voltage, just allows higher current to pass easily in to the batteries. I've only had it installed for a few months so I can't comment on battery life.
