The fuel pump depends on good fuel flow to stay cool. Any restriction will shorten fuel pump life. That is why removing the screens from the tank and installing an external filter (aka hutch mod) that can be changed annually and conveniently will make your fuel pump very happy. Electric motors have a lacquer (or other material) insulated wire that ages and turns to carbon when subjected to repeated heat cycles. Short circuit eventually results. Larry
