360/390 flywheel?

360/390 flywheel?
I have a 1970 360 w/ 4 speed and want to put a 65 merc 390 in will the 360 flywheel work? or is there a balance issue. I would like to add headers and 4 bbl aluminum intake if anybody has some lying around. thanks.

360/390 flywheel?
No, the 360 flywheel is smaller diameter, but I would think if you used the tranny from the 390 it would work. It is the size of the flywheel that matters in this case.

the 390 is automatic and I wanted to keep my 4 speed, I think I'll get a flywheel for the 390 and then look for a clutch. It's kind of a shame that fordomatic shifts great.

360/390 flywheel?
I've made that swap many times and all your 360 stuff will work just fine. No balance problems should occur. Just make sure your 390 has a new pilot bushing installed in the end of the crank. All the FE engines from cars and pickups balance the same except for the 410 and 428. I once had a 69 4 speed pickup that had a 360 then a 390 and eventually a 332 car motor and I used the same setup on them all. I put a 428 flywheel on the 390 and had to take it back out because of the imbalance.
