After looking at the diagrams a little closer the 5.0L engine does not have the RABS data plug in 1996. It only came with the 4.9L, 5.8L, 7.5L and the 7.3L trucks.
You would have to unplug the RABS connector under the dash on the passenger side and tap the wires there. Pin #3 (LG/BK 519) & pin #10 (R/PK 523).
I was thinking you might have 4 wheel ABS with the 5.0L but I was thinking that only came with the Bronco in 1996.

Yes I do have abs and it's the ford 300 inline 6 idk the if it's the 4.9 or 5.0
Does not sound like the VSS generator is either not putting out, not installed right or there is a brake in the wiring between the VSS generator and the test point.
I'm buying a motorcraft vss tomorrow I called the dealer and he said that they make two different ones for my year based on vehicle manufactured date it's like $40 so I'm going to try that he said they are different lengths one is to short and doesn't create enough voltage to work the speedo so I'm going to try that
