My last two dentside purchase went as follows. The first was my black 78', the guy wanted $2,000 for it, I was willing to go $1,500. After letting him cut his own throat, I got it for $1,200 and drove it home. My green 73' sat for a few days, I stopped and the guy said he wanted $2,500. I decided I would wait a week and give him a cash offer of $1,000. When I got there and looked of the truck, I was willing to pay $1,500 once again, but I just simply asked, "I have $800 cash and a trailer to haul it home with right now... Will you take it?", and that was the entire negotiation. Neither guy knew they left money on the table.

Start absurdly low... Do not worry about hurting feelings. My mother told me a long time, the first person to say a serious number on a negotiation, loses. No truer words have I found in this situation.
I do believe your Mother was correct !! Good point!

No.

A 351W will have 6 valve cover bolts and a 351M or 400 will have 8.

I think seller doesn't know what he has.

I'm thinking it probably has 4:10s ...safe to assume if its original?

Okay, here's the [no pix yet] truck Ranger XLT 351M for sure [valve cover tag says so] everything completely stock except for aftermarket carb, couldn't see what it is the stock air cleaner on top and it was raining like crazy. Factory air everything is there[prolly just needs charge] , factory cruise in the steering wheel, 2 gas tanks both work factory switch in a/c and heater cluster ,new door and window rubber, starter, battery, new 33 12.50 15 t/a's, starts and runs like a top.

Keep at him, having cash in hand tends to help them make up their mind.
