Just a few days ago, back in New York state, I was looking over a friend's 56 F-100, and he installed a sway bar assembly on his solid front axle. He told me it made a world of difference in handling, (so, I am considering the same for mine).
I did neglect to ask where he got his, but I will write to him and get that info.
He is using a Mustang type power assist steering setup. The truck has a pretty powerful FE engine and a 4 speed top loader trans. It's a mover.

I would assume you can use any sway bar with the correct diameter. You'll need to fab up brackets on each end of the axle and to the frame. Will save you a ton of money rather than picking up an aftermarket bar.
Start your search looking for Bronco sway bars
I have sways both front and rear on mine but again I'm running a CV front and Explorer 8.8 rear

Mid fifty's has one for $189.00 Dont think its worth finding junkyard parts for that price.
I spoke with my friend Garry about the sway bar he used on his truck. He bought the Mid50's setup. It fit well, and does a good job on his 56. The same bar assy. fits our 57-60 trucks.
I think he may even post a reply on here too, sometime.
Looks like you have found your answer on this. I just may do the same on my 57, someday. I do believe in a good sway bar on any suspension system.

Aloha, Tony
Tony Thanks for all the info and follow up. Now all I need is to find the $$$.
Damifiknow, I`m the guy Tony told you about with the 56 with the swaybar kit on it. The truck always used to roll in the corners with out it. After putting it on it handles much better. It was an easy bolt on and took me less than an hour to install. It has all the bolts ,hangers and pieces to install on the stock axle or a tube axle. The hardest part was drilling the holes in the frame. Also I`m running a power assist steering on my truck and the instructions say it won`t fit but it will with a little tweeking. With a FE over the axle these trucks like to roll in the turns or when cornering. You could add leaves but the ride gets stiffer and you still have the roll effect. It was one hell of a difference in handling with the kit. My truck is not stock on the rear either, 9" with ladder bars and a 2" hanger kit. It handles under power much like an altered and can be a hand full at times, still love it! Any questions ask.

Thanks for the post Definitely on the list of things to do after your input.
Installed tonight. Let me start by saying the CPP sway bar is a top notch piece. Powder coated 1 1/4 inch bar with heavy duty 1/4 inch thick brackets also powder coated. After install I must say the body roll has improved greatly. No actual number just seat of the pants feel. I does feel like one out back would give some benefit. I highly recommend if you want to take turns a little faster. $167.00 delivered.
