Found a c6 gear vendor and DN overdrive

Hi,
I have been keeping my eye out for an overdrive unit for the c6 in my e250.

I had researched and been looking at the Gear Vendors. Today I came across this Doug Nash unit. It looks to be a little more involved to shift than the GV. What do you think:

Thanks

Thanks for the input. Any specific reason why?

My biggest concern is that my research shows there is no longer any support for them. This would mean I would be SOL if something happened to it.

I have a DNE2 on my truck, and I had to source the internal switch as well as the motor, and I got both through NAPA, so its not impossible to find parts.

Im willing to bet you would see a MPG increase with a C6, but I didn't behind a ZF5 (Double OD), I get the same hwy mpgs with OD as I do with OD2... But thats probably because I cruise at 1600RPM at 60mph as opposed to 2000rpm at 60mph which is about where my torque peak is. I will say that its nice cruising at 1600RPM though, nice and quiet.

The nash is gear to gear. So no clutches, has a positive shift like a 2spd rearend. Im pretty sure theyre a bit stronger too.

A DN would be nice, but I went with a GV. $1400 (shipping included) is a bit steep though. At least it comes the C6 adapter otherwise it's a no-go.

Just for fun, I just did search for GV's on car-parts.com and found this:

<table cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0" border="1" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td>1984
Transmission Overdrive Unit Only
Ford E150 Van</td><td>C-6 OD UNIT FITS 400-1666B</td><td align="center">A</td><td>AH6308</td><td align="center">$350</td><td>Piland Auto Dismantling LLC USA-KS(Garden-City) E-mail 620-275-5506 / 800-886-5506</td><td align="center" nowrap="nowrap">1018</td></tr></tbody></table>

You might want to check that out first before dropping a grand and a half on an OD. (IMHO, Jayro and I aren't trying to haul big loads or have 500hp, so a GV would work just fine for our eco-mods)

Thanks for the link. I will check it out to see if everything is included with it.

As far as towing......the extent of my towing would be my track car (5k total) or a travel trailer (probably 8-9k total). As long as the overdrive will handle that I am good.

I have a DNE2 on my Current IDI Swap and when I was curious about how well they worked I asked my buddy if I could try his out on his 1987 F350 and I'll tell you what I'm Impressed... I've heard of some issues with the GVs I don't recall what it was though... the DNE and DNE2 only needs a switch every now and again... Here's a few links for the switches, if you need any Manuals I have digital copies... the DNE and DNE2 require you to clutch in on a Manual Trans in order to engage, so it's like another Gear...

Internal Solenoid Switch: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sm...FS3hQgodnRkAmw

Here is my DNE2 I got with my 6.9 and T19...

Holy cow! And I was trying to find ways of getting better fuel economy with 18-20mpg, I would have died if I was pulling single digits.

But still better than a 460.

that's just driving 45 mph too guys.

to be fair, that was a crap ton load of short stop and go test drive trips.i just got it and was trying it out around town and it's injectors were shot.she was missing pretty bad.this second tank isn't going to look much better cus she's been driven the same way.i won't have a real feel for how she does until the 3rd tank.she's just now (with the second tank 3/4 gone) freshly tuned up and dialed in.
that said, she can haul twice what chip can in one load........all i was looking for was half chips mpg.so 7 mpg would have matched it....plus all those man hours and driving time she'll save, essentially hauling twice the loads in one trip.....plus lifting whole logs saving cutting time at the job.it's big money saver even if the mpg doesn't look of that of a pickups....she's a money maker.
i'll see how it does for a bit,but i don't think im going to need the 5.13's anyway.i won't be towing large trailers.iv got a feeling i'll probably find another dana 80 rear with the 4.63's and swap that in......meanwhile though, she sure is a boat load of fun setup like this lol.
