so i removed my air pump on my 94 f250 with 351w. rerouted the belt with 97.5 inh belt. now trucks squeals real loud when first start it then goes away. i can run it for awhile, turn it off and start it back up and squeals again. would a too short of belt cause this?
Sometimes with the shorter replacement belt it contacts the alt pulley differently or doesn't contact as much pulley area so on start up when the alt is working hardest it slips a little. Also economy, or "cheap" belts are just that. Cheap. They slip right out of the package. What brand belt did you use?
the belt does contact more of the alternator with the reroute that i found a post from someone on here with pictures of how he did it on his. i ended up getting the belt from autozone and i think its called veralast. the other brand they offer other than duralast. is there a way to adjust the tensioner pulley or what can i do to alternator to stop this?
The tensioner is spring loaded and self adjusting. It may be getting weak and not putting enough pressure on the belt. I haven't used any A-zone belts before so I don't know if they are good or not but I have always used Gates and no problems with them. It is also possible the new belt just isn't seated into the pulleys yet. Give it a few more miles and see what happens. A little squeal isn't going to hurt anything.

If I understand the 351W belt routing correctly, simply taking off the air pump would give more wrap on the alternator and on the crank (assuming the new, shorter belt just runs straight from the alternator to the crank) and wouldn't affect any other pulleys. So I don't think it's this.
But at this point it sound like the belt is the likely culprit anyway.
AutoMoan's fan belts & parts aren't the best (understatement) -- please spend a few pennies more on a quality belt like Goodyear....
^^^^What he said! Valucraft/Duralast belts (and various other parts) just aren't that great, Goodyear or Gates belts are the way to go. I like AZ for some things, this isn't one of them...

I took the truck to autozone to have a guy look at it. He said after seeing it start and run, that the tensioner pulley was bad. It does bounce a little when running but it did that before also and it never squealed. so i'm wondering how much it is supposed to bounce?
Look real close at the tensioner pulley assembly. On the fixed portion of it that bolts to the engine, you'll see 2 marks. And looking at the movable part of it, you'll see another mark.
When the engine is running, the mark on the movable portion should remain between the 2 marks on the fixed portion. Out of range one way means the belt is too short, and out of range the other way means it's too long or has stretched.
Aftermarket tensioners may or may not have this feature but Ford ones do. At least the ones I've owned.
