300 ring type

What were the oe rings on a 93 4.9, moly faced or cast?
Which type would you put in a 4.9 honed standard bore on a backyard rebuild?
Thanks

I used cast on my $100 engine in truck overhaul. They will be more likely to break-in in a used bore. I did not even run a hone through it, just rings and rod bearing.
The rings sealed up fine and got rid of my excessive blow by problem. 5 out of 6 top piston rings were broken.
I would use felpro 525SD head gasket an the newer one piece oil pan gasket.

It is kinda freaky ... but it doesn't leak a drop of oil and goes 3500-4000 between oil changes without added any oil, It was using a qt every 800 miles. Best $100 I ever spent on the truck.

How difficult was the oil pan gasket change since you did it "in truck."
Mine leaks along with what I believe to be the rear main. Not delving into the engine any time soon, but interested in what it takes to replace the oil pan gasket.

I had the head off and just lifted it with the cherry picker about 2-3 inches. Not sure about with the head on, but people have done it.

Pan gasket isnt to bad had to pull radiator, starter, lifted off of the exhaust bolt and front valve cover bolt, but I wouldn't use the valve cover bolt again kinda sketchy. If it has a standard watch the clutch bar that runs from frame to motor and it will give more room if u pull valve cover.
