Well i have bad news, it ran good for awhile and now it runs sluggish once in awhile according to my wife, since she drives it more than i do. I test drove it for about 25 miles in the city and it does it but just not as bad as it used to do it. Im not sure what to do now, i already reset the ECM, maybe i should have just dropped the drop in K&N filter and put a catback and that should have been it (this is where the phrase comes in) " If it aint broke dont fix it." I just think that this Expy wasnt made to put an aftermarket intake. By the way it runs superb at night or when its real cool, maybe i'll just dump it down the hill and buy me a 6 liter Excursion. Im gonna take it to the dealer to see if its pulling any codes, theres gotta be something thats causing this erratic problem. ANYBODY, ANY SUGGESTIONS???

FORD:
2000-2002 EXPEDITION, F-150
ISSUE
Some vehicles equipped with the 5.4L-2V engine may exhibit a lack of power condition when operating in ambient temperatures above 38°C (100 °F). This may be caused by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration which retards the ignition timing to prevent detonation when the Inlet Air Temperature (IAT) reaches 60°C (140 °F) or above. This may be more pronounced during stop-and-go driving.
ACTION
Verify the condition. Reprogram the PCM with the latest calibration and on 2000 and 2001 F-150's, install body plugs behind Coolant Overflow Bottle if missing. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
For 2000-2002 F-150's and Expeditions equipped with a 5.4L 2V engine, if a lack of power occurs only when the IAT is above 60°C (140°F), reprogram the PCM to the latest level calibration as shown.
For 2000 and 2001 F150's, install Body Plugs (383181-S and N807093-S) behind the Coolant Overflow Bottle. Refer to Figure 1 for location and plug button installation. These plugs will reduce the engine compartment heat moving into the air cleaner inlet area.
Body Plug Installation
1. Remove air cleaner inlet. Refer to Section 303-12.
2. Remove jack handle.
3. Remove upper radiator sight shield.
4. Disconnect radiator overflow hose from radiator to degas bottle.
5. Position degas bottle away from body plug hole area.
6. Install body plugs in location shown in illustration.
7. Position back degas bottle Torque to 9 N.m (80 Lb-in).
8. Connect radiator overflow hose.
9. Install upper radiator sight shield.
10. Install jack handle.
11. Install air cleaner inlet. Refer to Section 303-12.

Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal (FPS 8262 obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.

I am going to try this on my 2002 expy to see if maybe they figured out their butts from a hole in the ground. I already ordered all the other stuff. I do not know if I should put that on first or wait until afterwards.
Somebody has the same problem noted in this thread, so i thought id update it so they can read it, concerning the loud fan clutch noise when truck is hot, causes it to run sluggish.
I have had the same problem. I live in orange county and we really dont see 100 degree days but I tow a boat to havasu in arizona and have the same problem. I took it to the dealer today and they reprogramed the computer. I wont know how this works untill I get out to az cause thats where it gets hot and I have the problems
Has anybody had this problem, and if yes have you guys corrected it? I need to know since i have this problem and it does it ocassionally. It sucks by the way. Thanks in advance.
I live in Houston and trust me the heat and humidity kill an engine's perfomance regardless of the manufacturer. The magic number for me is 93. Anything over that and I lose performance in a big way. As for those of you who complain that they can only "chirp the tires" at night----be happy, I can't even chirp the tires going around a corner with my 03 5.4 4x4.
Has anybody had this problem? Did you guys get it fixed? My problem is still there its just not that noticeable since its alot cooler, but i can still hear the fan clutch pushing excessibly high, my buddy's Expy doesnt do it at all, im gonna take it to the stealer tomorrow and see what they say about that article that is posted in this thread, i hope they can solve my problem, im gonna trade it for a new Nissan SUV if doesnt solve my problem, im just tired of dealing with FORDS........"Unless they are willing to trade me a new 6 liter 4x4 Excursion " Please any advice comments welcomed.
