I am looking at a used set of moldings for the "dent" on my 79 F250. They have holes in them through the rubber part..........My other 79 I had years ago used clips. This guy selling them says that some of them were just screwed on through the black rubber. I don't remember this at all and remember them having the rivets that used the plastic clips to retain the molding.

I have never heard of any of the side moldings trims being screwed through the black rubber, I have moldings that I am trying to get rid of
I am looking for a good set of moldings. Just the straight kind, not the ones that are hooked behind the rear marker light that were used for the two tones. It seemed fishy to me. That is why I asked here before I bought them. I am not going to buy a set that has holes through the rubber. I can only imagine what all those screws down the side of the truck would look like!!

ALL 1973/79 F100/350 body side mouldings used clips, regardless of the types of mouldings, or whether they were upper or lower mouldings.
Only the individual wheel opening mouldings used screws to attach them.
Race Track (R/T) mouldings were introduced in 1977, were standard equipment on 1977/79 Ranger XLT & 1978/79 Lariat Stylesides.
The R/T mouldings are the same with or without tu-tone paint.
The upper fender, door and cab corner mouldings with the black vinyl insert used on 1973/76 Ranger XLT's are the same as used with R/T's.
The R/T bed mouldings are different, as the ends curve where the upper to lower connector mouldings attach.

The clips are listed separately at the end of the moulding section.

Lol people try to pull the shadiest $#/$ I remember my dad's 79 XT lariat going to the body shop and him going to pick it up with screws thru the new molding to hold it on and then screws thru the other side so it matched to say the least my dad was pissed. Got into a big fight with the body shop and finally got the molding fixed and about 20 miles later the 460 developed dieselitis the tech at the body shop decide there were a few nuts and washers that need to go down the throat of the carb and Pound around during on two of the Pistons. Ling story short no visible screws or mounts on these trucks.

You can also change just the hooked end to the smooth rounded end (and "vicey versa") on that wide insert.
Also, sometimes over the years the rubber shrinks and starts to "fall" out of the molding along about half way. Happened to mine, I used 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive to secure it back.
