Hi Shane, I'm in the middle of a rebuild also. Word of advice... if you want to have lazy guys like me look at your pics, get them hosted on a site like photobucket and post them instead of the links.
My block is being decked... I will need to see it and talk to the machinist, but I'm not sure a 0.005 cut would cause any problems. I just measured my old head gaskets, and came up with a 0.059 gasket thickness. Assuming a zero piston deck height(IIRC) you shouldn't need to shave the pistons. All of this is theory, I don't have the block here.
Did the Ford overhaul kit include lifters, and what was the price?
The lifters and push rods were not included in the kit. He thought he paid some where around 280.00 for them from tascaparts, link below. They were OEM packaged in a sealed Ford bag. He purchased the push rods from there too, but couldn't remember what he paid for them... Hope that helps!

Reason: Adding the correct link
Most of the ones I do at the dealer I work for still get a squirt of paint. As long as it aint a school bus. Only takes a couple of minutes and most customers notice.
The Ford warehouse didn't have a problem swapping him out for the set of OEMs he paid for. All is good, but I hope they do some digging to figure out whats going on...
If I remember right that update came out 3 years ago. Just becarefull , I have seen to many people put too much of that crap in the groove and have the rubber squish out too far.
Thanks -- bedplate was done in mid 2011 I think, so it'd be close... OP: sorry for the sidetrack...
No apologies, all good discussion.
Anthony,
Don't shoot the messenger! I am being told the replacements were the same. I'm in KC for a few days so I didn't put my eyes on them. That being said, I would expect to begin seeing this more often.
No need to grab the gun just yet!!! However,, I have bought numerous overhaul kits since the first time Ashville brought this topic up. Until I see those parts actually get carried into my shop,, it's all heresy. I sure hope ford didn't cut corners by letting vr start marking their parts. Even if they end up being the actual manufacturer,, they screwed the pooch when vr put out the black onyx. I will NOT ever bolt vr stamped hg's on a truck. I will return the whole dang kit. Then when the reps from blue diamond show up at the shop again, they won't have a pleasant visit. Lol.
