Hello FTE goers, the clock in my 1993 f250 is going haywire. the clock likes to short and reset itself back to 0:00; it may stay set for a minute, or a couple months. so... has anyone else had this problem? is it the radio/clock itself going bad or something else?
First, the clock is not shorting out. If it shorted out, a fuse would blow.
Is this your factory radio? My factory radio wouldn't turn on the radio sometimes, and would indicate that there was a tape in the player. Only problem, there was to tape player in the radio.
Pulled it out, opened it up, and found the circuit board coated with crud that had been spilled on the dash at some point in the last 20 years.
Using an old toothbrush, I used brake cleaner on the soldered side of the board and got all of the crud off the board. It washed off the other side fairly easily with no scrubbing. Put it back together, and it worked.
Your clock has a full-time connection to the battery to keep the clock set. You might check the plug on the back of the radio.
Look at the front of the radio. There are 4 holes in the face of the radio on the left and right. There are lock clips there to keep the radio installed.
The auto parts places have a special 'key' to get the radio out.

They are just stiff wire bent into a u shape with barbs on the ends. If your radio has a tape deck you can take a coat hanger and cut it and bend two pieces into u shapes stick them in and pull the radio out by the tape deck hole.
Here you go. Might want to make sure this is for your truck but like this. My radio read like 3.5 hours too fast when I got it too and I don't know why. Maybe its haywire too but everything seems to work. You can get these tools at Best Buy too FYI

Be easy pulling it out by the tape deck hole so you do not rip the face of it off. If you do oh well now you can get that new stereo. If you do get one with blue tooth then you can use it for talking hands free on your cell phone with out the cord attached. My stereo has the aux. plug in the front so when I get in my truck I plug my phone in and listen to music and answer my calls and it goes thru the speaker nice and crisp and loud

Did you just use the factory installed speakers or did you buy new ones? What brand of stereo did you buy? Was it a plug n' play or did you have to get some extra stuff?
I have Panasonic head unit that is about 12 years old it is a bit of a ***** it has been in three other cars so far. Lol. the p.o. had the factory speakers replaced with what brand I am not sure. There is an amp behind the back (crew cab) seat mounted to the back wall next to a custom speaker box with 2 10" subs. To install it is easy get a installation kit it will have two separate plugs one should be grey I think and the other black. IIRC one is for the two power wires (yellow) (red) ground (black) amp remote (blue) and power antennae . The other plug will have 8 wires 2 wires per speaker. You wire them all up to the new radio and then plug them into the factory plugs and BAMM you are rocking to new tunes.
