So I got to speak with Tim Meyer yesterday and begin planning this build. I informed him that I found a pair of aussie heads that will need reworked for $400. He said that's a bit on the high side, considering ill have between $800 and $900 in getting them ready. Does anyone maybe have a pair they would offer up for less? or a ready to go set for around $1000?
its for a 1977 f-250 highboy 4sp. Im working with Tim to put together everything I need for a lower end street performance engine. Im looking to get about 375-400 hp keeping the 2bbl carb. according to Tim just strapping on these heads will do the trick on achieving a 9.5:1 cr, after headers and a duel exhaust with a mild performance cam, I should have what im looking for. He suggested just going with new aluminum heads, but I like the idea of original and ill still be a couple hundred under the price of alum. This will be my first build, and im trying to keep it as simple and cost effective as possible.
not yet! I bought a 400m crank turned down .01 on mains and rods. ill probably send that crank to Tim as well as the heads I picked up today! Im sure Tim has some bearings to compensate for the turn
Yeah I am cast iron head guy over aluminum heads in a truck motor just because of the way they deal with heat in real world truck use .. On the block as long as you start with a virgin magnafluxed block so when you finish it is only .030 over you'll be good .. What pistons are you getting ?
Well that's the question of the day...I don't know if im working with a virgin block or not. It does not appear that the engine has been pulled before, but wont know until I get in there. Pistons I am going to go with are the aussie pistons available through Tim Meyer, but, He only has them available in .02, .04, .06 over....So im hoping that its virgin and in good condition so I can go with .02 over....time will tell
