I have a 1992 ford bronco and need alittle help with the antilock breaking system. from the start when I turn the ignition key to the first position the abs warning light lites up then goes off. When I start the truck BRAKE and ABS warning light lights up then both go out. After about 18 seconds abs warning light lights up and remains on. This truck has 187000 miles on it so I changed the master cylinder and bled the system. Problem still remains. I disconnected the harness to the rabs module and the abs warning light went out. then I checked the harness voltage to pin 1,2&9. 1&9 ABOUT 14 V PIN 2 above 8 v then checked the diagnostic lead which also seemed fine. According to the manual the rabs module should be changed and retested. The other problem I'm having is that the speedometer, odometer, and cruise control whent out at the same time and the tranny is banging during shifting. Do I Have to seprate problems or are they connected. If i have to replace the rabs module does anyone know where I could get one rebuilt. Ford wants $215 for a new one and I own it. Junkyard? if I could find a module, it's over 10yrs old beacuse the module is one of a kind for 1992. I know I should scrap it but I want to fix it first. any help please tnx Cliff
Replace the vehicle speed sensor (VSS). This is a small plastic sensor mounted on top of the rear differential. When this sensor fails, you will see:
Dead speedo, odo, cruise control
Banging gears in the tranny (this is very bad for the tranny)
ABS does not work
The part was about $12 for my '92 at the Ford dealer. Don't drive for very long with the transmission banging like that. The internal pressure is maxed out, and that's not "a good thing."
