after reading about the benifits of the 2008 suspension and brake upgrade swap i am a willing to give it a go . where would be the best place to find all the parts ? any info would help . thanks
There are a few outfits converting new E-Series into 4 WD, replaceing the entire front suspension with new parts for an F-Series. Quigley and QuadVan come to mind, sometimes an enterprising re-seller buys these packages and sell to the general public. Logistics kept me from doing this, I went shopping at the dealership and eBay too. Don't forget NAPA for their Ultra Premium brake pads.
If you can't find the complete package in my write-up on this very conversion there is a list of parts with numbers. The only parts I bought "used" (new take offs, >100 miles) were the rotors and caliper hats or brackets---a very much needed part for this conversion.
Wait a minute...the 1996 E150 was a 5-lug light duty van, and JWA converted a heavy duty 8-lug E250. I don't know the history of brakes on the E150 but you may be playing a different ballgame here...
The suspension on an E250/350 is on a heavier and deeper frame, sits way higher, etc. Doesn't seem worth it to me to do such a major conversion on a van as old as a '96.
I agree George---there might be a compatibility issue and while its not definitive proof there's talk of it being possible on another forum, some contributing are 4 WD shops. The stopping power would almost be too much for an E150, making the brake pedal quite touchy.
Dollars vs utility the condition of the '96 would greatly affect that quotient I think---might be trying to polish a booger if the chassis/body are worn out or in bad condition.
thanks for the info there is a guy in the sportsmobile forum the did the swap to a 150. once i figure out how to post pictures (i will need my kids help) you will see why i am going to do the swap. thank you all for your time and i will post as the swap goes on . A great summer to all

Hey Richter: no problem at all on the help...lots of great resources here and I've gotten as much help as I've given.
Did the guy on the Smobile forum change out the front and rear axle and suspension to the full 8-lug setup and springs, etc?
I might also guess that the master cylinder might push more fluid on the 250/350 than on the 150 with larger calipers and pistons(?)

I don't think he's done that swap yet, believe he too was asking for advice or suggestions before beginning.
There is a member CarringB who seems to have instant access to details on master cylinder specs, such as bore diameter and stroke making it easier to assess if the earlier E150 MC will be sufficient for the larger front calipers.
IF this swap works on the lighter duty E150 of your year it would be awesome---its a great upgrade on my '03 E250 which runs close enough to max GVWR daily, more than justifying it to me.
