I have a 92 F1504WD, 4.9, 5spd, 4.10 gears. I plan to replace the stock 15" wheels and 235/75R15 tires with 16x7 wheels and 265/75R16 tires. I'm hoping to get my engine revs down a bit. This should be a no problem swap, right? Will I have a big change in braking effort? Right now American Racing steel wheels are at the top of my list. Anyone have any other reccomendations?
That slight of a differance in tires shouldn't cause any problems, I would bet that the speedo won't be off that far even. I put 35's on my f-150 and didn't have a problem with the abs even.
You wouldn't think it makes a large difference, but it does. It doesn't let the ABS work as efficiently, it will read incorrectly on your odometer, and can alter your air/fuel ratio slightly becaue it is a speed density system, but thats not a big deal it doesn't do much. Its simple to re-program your speedo, its worth it. There is a tech article on here that explains how to do it.
Primary rig is:
95' F-150 EB 300/6 5 spd with 4" Superlift, MSD, Ram Air, Gibson Exhaust, 32" BFG Muds
THERE ARE SOME PICS IN MY GALLERY!! :-)
Then theres:
88' F-250 Superduty 351 + c6
95' Mercury Cougar 4.6L V-8
80' E-350 300/6 and a
3 spd column shifter. Top speed, 65mph, Go Baby Go!
The newest addition to the Ford family is a 99' Mustang GT 4.6L
AS I understand, it wont do any good to reprogram your speedo if you have a manual transmittion because the shift points are whatever you want them to be. I have to watch out for the cops more because my speedometer is off from my 33's and I have a hard time driving slow even though I know im not! I also have not had a problem with my abs.
