Sound Deadening

For those of you who have done sound deadening mods for the the passenger compartment of the X, what did you do ? What works well ?

What material did you use ?
Specific areas that you did or did not apply ?
Door seal mod ?

Thanks for any and all info

I've yet to start on sound deadening the EX but I do have experience with other vehicles.

From my experience:

-You can argue all day about what vibration products to use but generally there are two types: Asphalt based and butyl based. The butyl is heavier so it will be more effective in reducing panel vibrations assuming all things are the same (like thickness of product) compared to asphalt.

-Dynamat is a great product but it's overpriced. You can find products that are just as good if not better for less money.

-It is NOT necessary to cover every single square inch with deadening. You get to a point of diminishing returns very quickly. If you got money to burn by all means go for it, but for me I can't notice the difference between a panel that's 70% covered compared to one that's 100% .

-vibration dampening material will do NOTHING for road noise. Most of the noise coming from driving is tire and wind related. Closed cell foam is how you can address these issues.

-Hollow cavities like A pillars amplify noise and echo. Eliminating the hollow space will reduce road noise.

I used to own an 04 Dodge 2500 Cummins and compared to that vehicle the EX is Cadillac quiet.

I don't think it will take much to get noticeable gains

There, that's my post

.......But seriously that says it best. I used "Fatmat" as it was the best bang for the buck and did it in 2 stages. I did the 70% at first (Wifes 02' Highlander) And drove around for a few weeks. It was amazingly better and I only did the lower sides and floor. Then since it's a small vehicle and I had plenty left over I went back and did a 2nd and in some spots a 3rd layer (to make the floor flat). There was, I guarantee a 1% decrease in road noise. One layer, one time. Screw name brands, just get a brand that is using the tried and true products. Dynamat is a scam at this point money wise, but it's a very good investment
