The Service Engine Soon light is on in my 2001 F-150. I checked the code and got PO156 generic O2; circuit (bank 2, sensor 2). What are the most common things I should look at? The truck appears to be running fine, no driveability issues.

I got this code on my 05 chevy. Had to replace the cat. If that is what it turns out to be for you and you aren't doing it yourself don't take it to a mechanic. Take it to a shop that just does mufflers. It will be cheaper and usually done better.
I usually try to fix things myself, so I'm trying to look at and rule out the simple things first. I'm just not sure where to start with this, or how to test certain things properly.
Well, the code description you got did not tell you anything of value.
On a FORD it is a circuit issue for the rear OX sensor bank 2.
Get under the truck and inspect the connector and the harness for grounds, open or cross with other leads.
It is not an indication of a faulty cat. The codes for this are 420/430.
Cat monitoring is a dynamic observation of switching ratio between the front and rear OX sensors..
The 156 code is an electrical fault detection.
Obviously the cat monitor cannot work with an electrical problem present.
Good luck.
Thanks. I'll check the connectors and wiring first. The light went out when I started my truck to leave work this afternoon. But I'm sure it'll be back.
