Unfortunately when hot crankcase vapors condense its mostly oil, which makes a mess of the intake system. But on the plus side boost leaks are easy to find....
I am interested in the Ford techs opinion on it, as he may find something, but just don't hold your breath for a new turbo.
I'm curious, is there a way to check for this type of issue without tearing pipes apart?
For example, would oil be on the air intake walls?
Last time I changed my air filter, the air intake (as far as I could see) was spotless as it always is.

You won't be able to see it from the filter housing as the CCV tube is further upstream. CCV oil tends to collect in the turbo, intercooler and any low place in the charge air lines in between. If you think about it real hard, you will start to see why different brands/grades of oil can affect regen frequency.

Yep^^^^^. They all look like that these days. And if you really want to see something nasty open the intake up after the EGR intake.
And it's not just Ford's diesel that looks like that. German diesels that I work on are just as bad, and half the size/power.

Well the dealership just got back with me. According to Ford there is not enough oil located in the turbo to indicate an issue and when they test drove it they didn't experience any lag or PSI drop. If that is the case then the only reason that I had a PSI and lag issue was due to a hose clamp that came loose and when I brought it into Ford, re-assembled, I put the hose clamps back on tight. I will keep an eye on it and if it starts to act up again then I will let ya'll know.

unless you start seeing a measureable oil level drop or smoke out the tail pipes then I would not worry at this time.

Well there is apparently nothing wrong with the one I have so unless it blows up I don't have any problems after all what everyone here has said (and Ford says the same) is that it is normal for that amount of oil there.

I had a guy at work 6 months ago telling me how his Duramax with 42,000 miles had a bad turbo and he needed to replace it before camping season started up for his wife. We had had several conversations about replacing it and suddenly it occurred to me to ask how he knew it was bad. He told me there was oil residue on an intercooler boot so he pulled the air inlet off the turbo and found oil puddled there. I directed him to some reading material on CCV reroutes and he ended up saving about $1000 and 5 hours of his time.

I am going to try and knock it out this weekend. It just depends if my friend is available to help. Once I get it on I will post pics and give a review.

Unfortunately I was not able to get to it. I don't have the necessary tools to tear the turbo down and my friend and I were able to de-conflict our schedules. Now I just got sent to satan's butthole (aka 29 Palms) for a few weeks where it is a nice balmy 110 at 5pm. Yay.... As soon as I get back I am going to try to get it on because I need to use up 24 vacation days before I lose them.
