I have a 1992 F150 with 300 6 cylinder. We have replaced the fuel pump, relay, regulator (all oem parts). When you try to crank the truck after sitting for a period of time (2 hrs or more) the fuel pump stays on for 10-20 minutes before shutting off. The truck will not crank until the fuel pump shuts off. We have checked all codes and pressure. Completely stumped!! Please help!!!
So what was the pressure? The FP is controlled by a relay in the engine compartment fuse box. The EEC grounds it temporarily each time the key is turned to RUN, and then turns it off until it sees the PIP, indicating that the engine is turning. Then it turns it back on.
If the engine won't start with the pump running, you need to find out WHY - is the ignition system not powering up?
If the FP relay is staying on for 20 min, you need to find out WHY - is the wiring shorted to ground? Is the relay burning out and melting its own contacts together? Is the EEC going bad and keeping it on that long?
