Who's bright idea.
. I haven't changed the plugs on a 70 model van but I did own an 86 e150 with a 5.0. With the plugs being easily visible and on the side of the head I could change them all with ease. And without having to remove half the engine in the process. It is the same way on almost everything I work on with my sd and van too. And I think most on here would agree that the majority of the stuff we fix, we see an easier or more convenient way it could be done. If we can figure it out then surely the people tat design the vehicles can too. They are in the business of making money, not making things easier on us. The more cars they sell and the more stuff that has to get brought to the dealer to fix, the more money they make.
Modern vehicles are more an integrated system. When anticipated failures occur the pcm can identify and often deal with failures or loss of input. Lots of examples in this and other threads.
But, when 'assumptions' don't anticipate the multiple failures, or worse false/intermittent sensor values the diagnostic procedure is much too complex.
The egt sensors on the 6.7 is an example, as was the < -40 degree O2 sensor i think) not having data for those very cold temps.
Gov already telling me too much to do, don't want my auto doing it too..
Stopped at a light in LA, a gang surrounds the car, car won't let me drive over the thug in front of me? Heavy rain/snow/smoke/fog does car stop on me? The fact i don't ever know what or how the auto might self decide in a situation scares me away.
