Hard brake issues.

So my brakes are basically new on all corners. Before they were done, if I was sitting at a stop light, they would slowly bleed off. No leaks anywhere. Now after they're done, if I pump the pedal at all, they get hard as a rock and basically lose all stopping power. All my controls to the heat and AC function as they should. Does this sound like a weak vacuum pump or possibly the booster? I haven't done a vacuum test on it as I don't have a tester. Any ideas or similar issues? Any input is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Make sure all the vacuum hoses are connected correctly, look for leaks, then make sure your pump actually makes some vacuum.

BTW, I suggest upgrading to Hydroboost, if you intend to do any towing. It makes it *so* much nicer.

Thanks. I've heard about the hydroboost units but never really looked into them. Sounds interesting and worth a look. I checked at Summit and I only found one unit there. Is there a good place to price those out? I'm really leaning towards the vp as it's factory and has 265k on the clock now so maybe it's just weak and it's time for a new one. With summer hear I hope to get the boat out and don't want to take any chances with it.

Sounds like your master cylinder seals are leaking. They leak down internally. The vacuum system can only do so much, so if you pump your brakes a bunch the vacuum will go away. First fix the master cylinder since it will cause a situation where you over-use the vacuum.

Hydroboost is nice, it came stock on my dodge. BUT be aware that if you have a hose pop or a pump fail, you lose power steering and brakes at the same time. There are very few hydroboost units, and they are highly interchangeable.

These trucks make it particularly appealing due to the nearly Rube Goldberg version of making vaccum assist.
