Vacuum elbow collapsing, question...

I've read quite a bit in various threads about the large vacuum elbow collapsing, causing erratic idle speeds. My 2001 3.0 had that issue int he past. I shoved a 1/2" copper 45 degree elbow inside of the rubber elbow, and the problem was solved... until a few days ago.

We're now getting into the hot part of summer here. I've notice the same symptoms are beginning to return, once the engine compartment gets hot. My question is... is the large vacuum line a "hard line" all the rest of the way to the engine, or are there other places along it's length that can also collapse under vacuum?

Thanks in advance for your help!
Dave

Are you talking about the elbow on the part of the engine facing the front of the vehicle? If so, look on the side by the firewall for a second one that is also collapsing.

There is an elbow from the front valve cover to hard plastic line that goes to the back had. There is another elbow there and in between then is a "T" that goes into the intake tube after the air filter. Those elbows are noted for going soft or cracking. That will cause the idle problem.

I was talking about the line that goes from the large elbow connected to the back of the intake manifold, down and around to the PCV valve. Other than the large elbow that connects to the back of the manifold, are there any other soft spots in that line that can collapse, or is it a "hard line" the rest of the way from the manifold elbow to the PCV valve?
