I just bought my '72 three weeks ago, and I want to change the fuel filter. Trouble is....the engine is not original to the truck, so I don't know what year it is or anything, and I am not knowledgeable enough (yet) to ID this stuff by sight. The carb is a 2-bbl, but that's all I can say, so far. Here is a pic:
Also, here is a close-up of the tag:
Can someone tell me what I have here? THANKS in advance!!
What you have is a 1969 2100 carburetor off of a 1969 Galaxie. It is a 1.23 venturi 356 CFM used on the galaxies with a 351 2V with an automatic transmission.
It should not matter that this is not original (unless you are looking for original) as this carb should work great with your 352 (If thats what you have) but might be a bit much if you have the 292 or 289.
The kit you want is the CT-499D motorcraft kit available at any Ford Parts counter.
I figured it would fairly easy to get the right one, but I'll be driving the truck when I stop at the parts store. You can bet I'll do a side-by side comparison when I go!
Well, I don't want to step on Rockit's toes here but that Carb Forum was wrong on the engine size.
C9AF-C=
1969 FULL SIZE FORD CAR, 390 2V, A/T C6 & C/M. Parts list 19Z. o-10,000 ft altitude.
Both #53F and #54 jets listed.
Carb kit #D4AZ9A586A (CT499D).
Choke cap #C6AZ9848A. Stamped "TW".
Float #C6AZ9550C. (I think I have a NOS one in my roll cab. PM me if you need it).
Forgot about the fuel filter. Ford part number D3AZ9155C (FG14C). Your local Ford dealer can still order it but it would go on a vendor backorder. May take awhile to come in.
Thanks, JEFFFAFA!! Lots of great info! Since I'm trying to nail down a sporadic rough idle issue, I may do an aftermarket piece for now, and let the Ford dealer get the next one!!
If you can close both air/fuel jets and the engine continues to run then the power valve is bad. Also check a vacuum leak. One place that mostly over looked is the Vacuum Advance leaking diaphragm. Check all rubber lines loose carb bolts or bad carb base gaskets. Float level set to low or to high..Many little things to check...

No prob, what would be the number for the 351w carb out of curiosity. Also, I did not think there was a tab for the holley, but just wanted to be sure
Sorry 'bout that chief. I aimed for the toes without bunions! Taking Fairlane,Torino (C9OF),and Mustang (C9ZF) and their tag numbers out of the picture we end up with C9AF-J and C9AF-Z. BTW, Ford didn't specify 351W or 351C. Only "351".
